Cucumber and Banana – Dr Oz Said

May 1, 2012 · Leave a Comment

Hope you try all of these sugar replacement meal ideas and  snacks!

Half a Fruit in Salty Meals

Trick your taste buds by eating ½ a fruit with your salty meals. Try eating a turkey sandwich with natural cranberry fruit preserves. Add mangoes to grilled chicken. (You can even order this in a restaurant.) Add a handful of raisins to rice. (Dr Oz does this.) Doing this will preemptively strike that sugar attack, so you won’t crave sugar later on.

Dr Oz: Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate

Melt a bar of dark chocolate (this is the little 1-inch cubed bar and not an entire candy bar!) in a spoonful of peanut butter. Then make a scoop out of it. Enjoy it when a craving comes on. This only contains 4 ½ g of sugar. You can also freeze the scoop and eat instead of ice cream.

Pickles & Cottage Cheese

Looking to lose a few pounds? Try mixing pickles into cottage cheese. Cottage cheese has a belly busting protein that will help keep you satiated. Each pickle adds only 5 extra calories. Dr Oz passed to an audience member and she stated it was “not bad.”

 Popcorn & Almond Milk

This may sound gross, but it really isn’t. Try pouring almond milk into a bowl of popcorn and then eat it like cereal. This combination makes for a great sweet and salty bedtime snack. The almond milk contains tryptophan to help you fall asleep.

Cucumber & Banana Stacks

Try placing banana slices in between cucumber slices. It’s like having a sandwich but without the calories. Also, it’s high in potassium.

Puss in Boots

November 16, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Tuesday  night, movie night with Sophie.

This was  not exactly my idea, see going out  during a work week is not  my cup of tea, but this Tuesday my mom thought it would be a good idea to take Sophie to see Puss in Boots.  So off we went on our  little outing, just  the three of us…

Sophie was all smiles and just could not wait to see Puss.  I explained to her that this Puss was the same Puss that was in Shrek. This little pussy cat now had his own story.Thank goodness there was no line to get into this theater…I guess the word is not out that Puss in Boots is in town.  I inhaled my dinner to beat no crowd.

My mother got these tickets for us FREE…See  we have Optimum iO TV

No line to get soda or popcorn.  Sophie got her soda…Wow, have you seen the prices lately, $4.50 for a small coke, good thing I bring my own microwaved popcorn.

Oh, did I forget to mention that my mother brought her friend Angie.

And  I thought it was going to be just the mama, daughter, and granddaughter outing…I should have known.

3D movies are  much more interesting to watch.  Love the I can reach out and touch it effect.  3D certainly has improved, even the glasses are like real glasses.

Gee, I remember the glasses that were made like  paper thin.

Sophie kept these glasses on..looking cool. I wore mine on top of my glasses…not looking cool..

Angie and my mother  having their own conversation.  I was just the babysitter.

Did we enjoy watching the Puss in Boots character?

Yes, we did.

Puss was entertaining and some old story characters were included in the story line,  Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Jack and the Beanstalk, Mother Hubbard, of course with a little twist.

As for Sophie… yes, she also enjoyed the movie, even though we had to make a bathroom run towards the end, but Sophie did not miss the closing song.

Lady Gaga, she said…Puss in Boots was now a very cool cat.

The Three Stooges 2012

September 29, 2011 · Leave a Comment

The Three Stooges…Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk…how funny these guys were, at least to me.  I can remember watching them everyday, Officer Joe Bolton would start off the show with a little speech and always explain that you should never do what Larry, Curly, and Moe do.

I so loved Officer Joe.

The Stooges comedy was called slap stick comedy.  Slap stick was an appropriate name…Moe did the slapping and Curly and Larry got the slap stick out of them.  My granddaughter, Sophia, was introduced to the Stooges one sleep over night.

See, My Husband still watches them on Sunday mornings.

It seems that no matter how many times I watch them, and even though you can predict what is coming next, I always laugh at their antics.

Here are some of their silly statements that still make me laugh…

“I’m doing the elevator dance.” “Elevator dance?” “Yeah, there’s no steps to it.”

“Let’s play post office.” “That’s a kid’s game.” “Not the way I play it.”

“And what were you doing in Paris?” “Oh, looking over the Parasites.”

“How’re we gonna shoot golf without guns?”

“He’s for onesies, you gave him twosies.” “Here’s fivesies!” [SLAP!!]

“Fire at will.” “Which one is Will?”

“How dare you hug my wife in front of my eyes!” “Well turn around, and I’ll hug ‘er behind yer back!”

Gee, I wonder if I looked like that when I was delivered by the stork?” “When you were born, you were delivered by a buzzard.”

One of my favorites was Niagara Falls routine…

“Niagara Falls! Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch, I walked up to him. I smashed him like this, I hit him, I bopped him, I tore him to pieces, and I knocked him down!”

You know I say this routine when anyone says Niagara Falls…can’t help it.

All that slapping, eye poking, hair pulling, and not to mention Moe pushing Curly and Larry around.  But,  this is what my generation grew up with i.e. Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, Road Runner, Mighty Mouse, and of course the  Stooges.

Moe, Larry and Curly are coming back to the screen- The Three Stooges 2012 - The Three Stooges Movie Johnny DeppThese guys are a hard act to follow

Well, I would say no matter what you think of the Three Stooges, you have to realize they are icons of their time…NYUK, NYUK, NYUK…Loved Curly the best
