Sometime I get overwhelmed with all the stuff I have in my closets and basement. I’ve decided to try and clean up my world and here are some steps that can help me and you.
Five minutes a day spent decluttering an area is surprisingly effective. If something new does make it’s way in, make it a rule to give two things away in its’ place.
Choose a local charity to donate all the items that you decide you no longer need, but would hate to throw out. All the items that you resist giving away, think about putting them in a box – seal and date the box for six months or one year in the future. If at that time you haven’t needed to break the seal – give the entire box away.
A clean sink goes a long way in making your home feel more organized. I’ve decided that I will go to work each day always having a dish-free sink and I’ve found out that this clean feeling spills over to the rest of the house. So I make sure I make the bed after I do the dishes and then I can go to work.
Start in a corner of a room and work your way around. First gather all the things that don’t belong in the room – put in a laundry basket – to put away after you are finished. Then wipe down surfaces and touch up the floor with a broom or vacuum.
Have to be get real about the stuff I’ve been saving – if I don’t love it or need it – I’m giving it away. If you think something you have is worth money – find out – check on ebay.com or ask a local antique dealer.
Fall in love with a shredder – I shred all junk mail and paid bills on a daily basis – otherwise, the paper mass just takes over my world.

When I
needed to redo a room in my home, I would shop from Spiegel Catalog and Fortunoff’s. Well, we all know what happened to Fotunoff’s and Speigel decided to do away with home goods. How terrible this was for me. Then my cousin, Liz, told me about Penney’s, I said, “really Penney’s”, she said, I always shop at Penney’s and they have alot of home items, and reasonably priced. I liked the reasonably priced part.
I gave it a chance, because I had no real choice. I started with little items, a coffee pot was as far as I would venture to go, ordered from their website, and no delivery charge, the best. Then one day I went to Westbury Mall and decided let me give Penney’s a look. I was so impressed with their bed sets, so much to choose from and again, the price was right. I never thought I would buy a red and gold bed set with matching curtains, no less, but I did. I love the feel the red gives. JCPenney is a definite stop now ever time I need a home idea.
Thanks JC Penney.
Merci
