Oh, what a beautiful day it was to see my granddaughter receive her First Holy Communion. It’s a moment in time when a parent and grandparent feel such joy. A child’s First Holy Communion is special for everyone.
The church was packed with proud parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and friends. I was so excited about this special day that I was 20 minutes late for the church ceremony. This was not a good thing. I was not late because I was running behind, I was late because I could not find the church. How stupid is that? Very stupid! I had forgotten that the parish of St. Thomas had two churches, a small church and a bigger church, of course I went to the small church. Duh! I thought I was going to have a heart attach the way my heart was beating in my chest when I realized the error.
In spite of my error I did get to see the children receive their first communion.
Thank God for that.
Sophie looked so beautiful. A little girl growing into a lovely lady. All the children showed their best.
After the ceremony was over we wanted to take some pictures outside the church. That did not work because it started to rain. However, I did get a picture of my son and his family standing in front of Padre Pio’s statue. We then ran inside to get out of the rain, so a picture in front of the church’s stained glass window worked for me.
Then off we all went to Verdi’s of Whitestone, to celebrate this joyous event.
Sophie was so happy…. her day was filled with family and friends. Mike the DJ played all the songs that she loved to dance to.
But the best dance she had was with her daddy… my son!
How beautiful was that to see. Here they both were daddy and his little girl dancing. I could tell how much Sophie loved this moment. If only I could have snapped it up and wrapped it in a box for her to open and enjoy over and over again. For I knew that the next time she dances with her daddy she will be a bride on her wedding day.
I pray that I will be blessed to see the day my son and my grand daughter dance together on her wedding day. But for now I know I am blessed to see my grand daughter receive first communion and watch my son’s family grow.
Thank you Lord, you have given me two very special blessings, their names are Christian and Sophie…
