Designate their workspace with a baking sheet. Helps with the spills and contains the mess.
Prepare for five minutes alone. Read the recipe right before you start and decide which job you will let the chef in training do.
Pint-size the project. My mom would let me and my sister shell the peas – mmmm, they were so good.
Fill up the sink.  I don’t know any kid who doesn’t like to play with sudsy water.
Spin, Spin, Spin that lettuce dry.
Have a routine – wash your hands first and bring a chair to the counter.
Go slowish and give them one instruction at a time.
Use smart tools – wooden spoons have smooth, round handles suited to a childs’ grip.
Let them cut – plastic utensils take much of the danger but still, supervision is always required.
Keep it steady and stable – anchor bowls, cutting boards on your baking sheet with a damp paper towel.

Have Fun!!!!
