When I asked my niece Sandra if she would like to come with me to see Waitress, she screamed Oh yes, I love Sara Bareilles music. Seems she was wanting to see the musical for some time. She was so right, the show was absolutely wonderful. Really a little slice of heaven and definitely one of my favorite shows!
WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna, Jessie Mueller, what a beautiful voice. an expert pie maker in a small town, who dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor ,Drew Gehling, who sounded to me like a mix of James Taylor and Kenny Loggins, very dreamy, may offer her a chance at a new life, while her fellow waitresses,Jenna Ushkowitz and Keala Settle, offer their own recipes to happiness. But Jenna must find the courage and strength within herself to rebuild her life. This new American musical celebrates friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
Based upon the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress is the first Broadway musical in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots, with a book by Jessie Nelson, a score by five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus.
The music and songs are wonderful, the story had us laughing and crying and laughing again. The cherry on top was meeting our friends and having them sit right behind us. Love when that happens.
