Did you watch the ABC special on Tuesday evening? I did. I loved and admired Jacqueline Kennedy.
I was very young when John Kennedy became President. To young to know anything about politics, or the presidency. Of course, like everyone in America, when JFK was shot it was an episode of shock and horror, probably my first taste of how the world can be an evil place.
I remember clearly the funeral service for our President, her husband. I actually kept a scrapbook… photos of the funeral, photos of Jackie and her family. I still have this scrapbook, with newspaper clippings that are turning yellow from time.
It was at this time, during the funeral ceremonies, that I began to admire this woman. She stood tall. Her two children by her side, they were so tiny. I was to young to realize how sad this was for her children, I only focused on Jacqueline Kennedy.

The newpapers compared her look, at the funeral, to the Madonna. No, not Lady Madonna. The original Madonna, the mother of Jesus Christ.
The two hour special was based on tapes of an interview, uncut interviews. Jacqueline’s daughter, Caroline, released these tapes to the public. I commend her daughter. Caroline released the tapes uncut, did not hide what her mother said, even though some of the comments are considered not politically correct. PC was not in existence in the 60’s.
I loved her voice, she spoke softly and lovingly. The special revealed how she loved and admired her husband. Jackie placed her husband before herself… always making sure she made him happy, and admitting that it was a little Victorian, but that is what she wanted for him. (JFK).
I realized, as I watched the show, that Jacqueline Kennedy did not disappoint me in the least. She was exactly the type of person I imagined her to be. She possessed class. She gave truth to the saying, “You cannot buy class, you are born with it.” Jacqueline Kennedy was born with it.

But, I do believe she did this to protect her children. She feared for their lives, they were Kennedy’s. And wanted to get them far away from this land. The world was not so small than. You could escape from your surrounding. Of course she did come back home when the time was right for her.
When she died the world lost a beautiful person, I mean beauty from inside out. She was only 64 years old when she passed on to meet her husband. She was young when she died but, I am glad she was not alive to see her son, John Jr. die. He died in a plane crash.

So, if you did not get to see the special, or maybe not really know who Jackie ‘O was. Go ahead, catch the repeat. Get it on the web.
Learn about this timeless woman, Jacqueline Kennedy…she was history in the making.
