For the longest time, I only used my microwave to reheat leftovers. Not any more, here are some groovy things you too can “cook” in your microwave – who knew?
Toast Nuts – Spread nuts in a single layer on a microwave safe plate – Microwave 3 to 8 minutes depending on your microwave (one minute at a time, stirring each minute) Nuts are done when they smell toasty.
Froth Milk for Latte – Fill a small lidded jar halfway with milk, cover and shake until frothy (about 30 seconds) Remove lid and mircrowave for 30 seconds. Pour milk into your coffe – holding back the foam with a spoon – scoop foam on top.
Poach Eggs – Crack one egg in a microwave safe bowl or mug – add 1/3 cup water and 1/2 tp vinegar. Cover with microwave safe plate and cook for 1 minute. Look at egg and continue cooking 20 seconds at a time til done.
Single Serve Macaroni & Cheese – Combine 1/2 cup elbow pasta – 1/2 C water – 1/2 tp salt in a microwave safe bowl – Microware high for 2 minutes intervals, stirring between each interval until pasta is al dente, (6-8 minutes) Add 2 Tb water if needed – Stir in 1/4 C milk and 1/4 C cheddar cheese – Microwave for 30 seconds intervals, stirring between each until cheese becomes a rich sauce.
Popcorn – Add 1/4 C kernals to a brown paper bag – fold the top of the bag a few times – microwave for 2-3 minutes or until most of the kernals have popped – carefully (hot) make slit opening and sprinkle as desired with butter, salt and other toppings.
