Veterans Day – November 11
Originally, this day commemorated the end of the fighting in World War I at 11 am on November 11, 1918. It was called Armistice Day. But since that name applied only to World War I, the new name was proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954. Veterans Day now honors U.S. soldiers in all wars. It is observed in most states and in the U.S. territories and possessions.
The national observance of Veterans Day in the United States takes place at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetary in Arlington, Virginia. Services begin at 11 am with two minutes of silence followed by taps.
There are parades and many churches hold memorial services and some schools present special assembly services.
Canada honors its soldiers on the same date at Confederation Square in Ottawa. There the holiday is known as Remembrance Day.
Italy also honors its unknown soldier of World War I on November 4, the date of the Victory of Vittorio. On this day a wreath is placed at his tomb in the monument to Victor Emmanual II in Rome.
England and France commemorated Armistice Day in 1920 by burying an unknown soldier in each countrys’ hightest place of honor – Westminster Abbey in London and beneath the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Can You Just Own 10 Shoes?
How many shoes do you think you need? Or, how many shoes do you actually own? Let me say I own too many. I have shoes that I have not worn and continue to buy shoes every time I see a pair that are the pair I have to have. What is it about shoes that keep us coming back to them? Over and over again, and every time I buy a new outfit I have to buy another pair of shoes…I have come to realize that I am addicted to shoes and have sworn off passing by the shoe department.
Then I came across this piece from Glamour called “10 SHOES EVERY WOMAN SHOULD OWN” With these 10 shoes, according to the piece, we need not worry about what to wear. So here are the 10 shoes they recommend.
Nude Peep-Toe Pumps
Black City Boots
Ballet Flats

Suede Booties

Flat Leather Sandals
Gorgeous Work-of-Art Shoes That Make YOU Happy
If I only need these 10 types of shoes, then what do I do with the other 20?

Dad, Grand Dad and Great-Grand Dad’s Birthday
My dad turned 79 this past Friday. We celebrated his birthday on Sunday, I made baked macaroni, Maltese style, at least I tried to make it that way, and a roast beef for dinner. We had planned to celebrate my dad’s birthday at a restaurant, but with the grandchildren we thought it best to just make a little something at home.
It was certainly the best thing we all did.
Where can you go and be able to scream, bang on the table, laugh so loud that your ears hurt, talk till your blue in the face, and not feel like you are bothering other’s…certainly no place but home. Our gatherings always start out quiet then escalate into a shouting match, especially when there is a football game to watch. My dad loves being with all of us, most of all his great-grandchildren, Sophia and Christian.
Christian and Sophie don’t really understand how blessed they are to have Great-Grandparents. I wish I had my grandparent living close to me, but my grandparent lived thousands of miles away in Malta.
Christian just could not wait for my dad’s coconut custard birthday pie to be cut…sticking his fingers into the pie was the way he could get a piece, while we took pictures of them.
Funny thing is the great-grandkids get away with alot more then we ever did…sticking a finger in my father’s pie would have gotten me a smack on the hand real quick…not Christian.
So Dad, Happy Birthday from all your children and we look forward to celebrating your 80th next year.
