John Lennon would have been 71 years of age this October 9th, had he lived.
An ordinary man John was not. In his early days, Lennon gathered 3 young Liverpudlian lads, and help create a phenomena called…
THE BEATLES…YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!
Lennon was witty and handsome, maybe more witty than handsome.
Lennon was often referred to as the “‘Smart Beatle”.
John Lennon was infamous for his comments, which at times got him into trouble with his fans and then some. One of his most famous comments that caused Beatle songs to be band from radio stations, and burnt, was his statement “The Beatles are more famous than Jesus.”
The funny thing is I understood what he meant by that comment. I believe Lennon was not making a anti-Christ statement, he was stating a sad fact.
John Lennon was not only a creator of music, he also created style. A style that others followed, styles like the Lennon hat, Lennon glasses.
John Lennon’s songs evoked a sophisticated dream like melody. Songs such as, Strawberry Fields, In my Life, Rain, Norwegian Wood ( this bird has flown), just to name a few.
The most popular song, that resonanted around the world, till this day, is “IMAGINE”, voted in 2004 as the world’s third greatest song of all time, by Rolling Stone Magazine.
“IMAGINE” bundled up all the dreams that John had for the world. Dreams of a peace that reached beyond our universe. Dreams that we all dream. John Lennon taught us to dream these dreams, and hope that a world of peace and love would become a reality…but John forgot one thing…John forgot the one ingredient that causes dreams to be shattered…and that is man himself.
For you see it was man who in the end shattered John’s dreams. His life was taken by one lone man who had a dream of his own and that dream ended up to be our nightmare.
On December 8th, 1980, Mark Chapman made a decision to take the life of John Lennon. To remove him from this world, to stop him from ever saying another witty remark, or create another song for us all to enjoy.![]()
Yes, Mark Chapman stopped John Lennon from reaching a ripe old age. But Mark Chapman could not imagine that the spirit of John Lennon would live on…in his music, in his style and in our hearts. Now we are left to imagine what this world would have been like had Lennon lived to become a senior citizen.
