A weekend getaway is always good therapy. So when my girlfriend Joanne emailed me and asked if I would like to join her and her husband for a 2 night stay in Springfield, New Jersey, at the cost of $150.00 for the 2 nights I replied, “Oh, yes we are coming!”
Joanne saw this great deal through Travelzoo.com.
The deal was for a 2 night stay at Doolans Shore Club, which included breakfast and dinner on Saturday night.
I was so happy we were going away. OK, it was not Bermuda, but like I said,” A weekend getaway is always good therapy”, and not to have to make a bed, or cook, makes it just like going to Bermuda.
When we got to Springfield, NJ, and we got closer to the shore, we started to see the reality of what Sandy did.
The boardwalk on the beach was completely gone, and they are now beginning to recreate a new boardwalk. Joanne, who lives in NJ, told me that they had recently replaced the boardwalk that Sandy tore away….
Do hope they get it ready for the summer season.
Here they are enjoying the sunny beach, Joanne, Joe and Bill. I have to say we did have great weather, it could have been a little warmer, but rain would have been the pits…So sun and wind no problem.
We did spend an afternoon with the horses. My betting technique was not working. I bet the horse based on the his/her name. Take my advice this is a sure lose, lose. Now Joe, on the other hand, bet a favorite and ended up being the only winner of the group. Not a big winner, but a winner, so this was good
Lunch at an Irish Pub. I love Irish Pub’s. Sorry, I cannot remember the name, but it had good food and great beer.
It was here that we learned what Sandy brought to this little town. The Pub we ate at was totally under water, only a few months ago, according to the waitress. We learned that the town’s people were canoeing, if they had a canoe, to get from one end of town to the other. This was AMAZING! Also, hard to visualize, especially since the shore was about 6 blocks away. However, I guess Sandy was able to get the lake and the ocean to come up and meet smack dab in the middle of town.
The town of Springfield, N.J., is recovering. 🙂
We saw the reconstruction of homes, roofs being replaced, and people getting back to their lives. Joggers, jogging, old and young alike. We saw Springfield, New Jersey, springing back. Sandy tore throw, but the people got back up. They showed Sandy the, you can knock us down, but we can get back up attitude.
Yes, it did our hearts good to see this little town keep on moving. It did our hearts good to know that no matter what happens we still have the power, and the choice, to get back on our feet and rebuild our lives.
God Bless, New Jersey!
