Every year, at Christmas time, my whole family travels to the Big Apple.
We love this yearly tradition. We take the LIRR (train) to Macy’s Herald Square not to purchase gifts but to see good ole’ Saint Nick, otherwise known as Santa Clause
What brings tears to my eyes is the thought that my grand kids are growing up, and someday soon, snap, they will no longer ‘Believe’ in Good Ole’ Saint Nick. First it will be Sophie, then Christian will follow, just like their daddy and auntie. They will both want to just skip this yearly outing all together.
As sad as this thought is, I have to remember that Christmas is not about Santa Clause, sending Christmas cards, Christmas trees, or wrapping presents…No that is not what Christmas is about!
Christmas is about the nativity. A child, a mother, and a father. The first Christmas family! This family did not sing Joy To The World, they did not go to see Santa Clause, and they did not have any Christmas tree. They also did not send or receive Christmas cards.
This Christmas family had all the odds against them. Yet, they managed to find a simple place to have a child, and without even sending birth announcements, they had visitors from afar.
Yes, Christmas is not about twinkles of lights and shopping till your dropping.
It’s about a blessed family. I know that I have been blessed with a family. A family who will certainly change but will always remember where their home is.
FAMILY! What a beautiful word.
Now this Christmas I will enjoy the simple moments I have with my family. Enjoy our simple Macy’s trips till there are no more, and when there are no more I pray that my family will find something new that brings us together. I pray this Christmas for all of the world. For we have allowed the unholy to take over the holy.
I will keep the first Christmas in my heart and know that a child was born to bring Joy, Peace, and Love.
“Merry Christmas!”
