The month of September marks the end of summer for some of us. Yes, September is the month that all the darling children begin preparations to go back to school. My grandchildren have been preparing and of course not so happy that summer is ending, and school is beginning. However, this year I got to be apart of the teacher’s preparation side of the new school year.
My daughter-in-law, who teaches at PS 152, asked me to tag along and help her prepare her classroom for the students.
As we entered the school your greeted by two large swinging doors. I mean these doors are so large that I felt minuscule next to them. 
The school staircase is exactly the same as I remember them. I didn’t go to a public school but I will assume a school staircase is a school staircase. The Brennan family carried up all the necessary materials to my daughter-in-law’s classroom. We are going to get this classroom in ship shape for the first day of school.
My daughter-in-law found her classroom and opened the door.
I could not believe my eyes. The classroom was a total mess. Seeing it in such disarray made me realize this was not going to be an hour cleaning job.
The grand kids wanted to help their mommy for the new school year. And they did their very best in the early beginning. Until, they realized that helping is not fun and decided to run around in the school playing with the other children who were brought along with their moms. 
My daughter-in-law’s classroom was decorative and filled with simple sayings that the children could read and understand.
The closet doors are used to teach math. Every inch on the walls reflect a teaching moment.
Sophie is such a dear. Sophie did drag furniture across the room, she’s a good listener, followed her mother’s instructions. 
As for Christian, let’s just say he was put in his place for he was not listening to instructions.
It took time but the classroom began to take shape. 
When it was all done we all felt that the children will be walking into a classroom that is welcoming. All ready for them to sit down at their desks to spend the days reading, writing, and learning their arithmetic.
Yes! September is the beginning of school and the official end of summer…but now I know that the children are not the only ones that prepare for the new school year. Way before the first school bell rings the Teachers take time to make sure the children’s classrooms are cleaned and all welcoming to greet their pupils.
