Toothpick Legs is a fun book my granddaughter keep enjoying because it brings her a little closer to knowing what it was like for her parents growing up. This book revisits the 90’s fashion, traditions and the sense of community that her mom and dad enjoyed. It gives Natalie a peek into her parents “glory days” opening up dialogue and conversation. I don’t know who is enjoying this book more – me, my daughter or my grand daughter!
What’s better than a birthday? Celebrating every birthday with the people who matter, the ones who have stood the test of time. Friends like family. Merci picked the restaurant and it was a great choice.
Great food, drink and what a view!! Fishermans’ Catch is where we raised a toast and wished Merci a happy 65th birthday. Cheers!
We try to make it a point to each order different dishes, so we can have a taste of everything we can on the menu. We started out with some crispy, fried calamari because, well, just because we love it.
My sister got the Tuscan Shrimp, I ordered the Newburgh Scallops with noodles, Marlene got the Salmon, which we agreed was the best choice. Merci, the Birthday Girl had the Stuffed Flounder. Delish!!! Oh did I forget to mention the view. Yes, this view.
It was really a beautiful Spring evening. There is outdoor dining, but we chose to eat inside. We would never leave without dessert and we always share one dessert. Look at this Berry Tiramisu for a sweet ending.
And when life gives you another birthday, always eat cake. Happy Birthday!!
I have been to the Milleridge Inn for weddings, showers, and office Christmas parties, and I always enjoyed the food at Milleridge Inn.
However, never had the opportunity to go their restaurant. When my parents wanted to dine out,one evening, they decided to give Milleridge Inn a try. Now we are paying customers, not guests of someones party, at the Milleridge inn.
Drinks were ordered, of course. My daughter ordered a White Sangria. Came in a tall glass and lots of chopped up fruit, just like she likes it.
Her main course, Chicken Breast Parmigiana, along with a side of ziti. Had to talk her into getting the ziti because she doesn’t eat macaroni. When the parmigiana arrived we were all in awe to see how large the chicken breast was. I mean it was big enough to feed 3 people. And it did! For what she couldn’t finish we took home, and my husband, and I, got to enjoy it the next day for dinner.
Fish was what I was in the mood for. I don’t get to eat fish at home so when I’m out I order fish. I had to ask the waiter if the salmon was fresh or farmed, and the waiter said,”I want to say fresh.” Ha! I think he knew that was what I wanted to hear. LOL!
The Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon with toasted Quinoa, Pea Shoot Salad ended up to be a perfect choice. I am pretty sure the waiter was right to say, “Fresh.”
Sorry to say my husband, who never detours away from his staple, ordered a hamburger.
The dining experience at Milleridge was a good one because the food was good. But what really made the evening at Milleridge Inn, most interesting, was my husband and his beer. Why would this be interesting to me? Because he claims to hate lime with his beer (Corona), always makes sure he removes the lime from the beer. However, this time NOT! I guess he is starting to detour.
Watching him pour the beer into his glass gave me the urge to have a beer.
I was asked to make lemon potatoes for my grandson’s birthday because my daughter-in-law wanted to serve chicken and beef souvlaki and what better to serve them with then Greek Lemon Potatoes.
Greek Lemon Potatoes are quite easy to make. Preparation is even easier and thanks to Martha Stewart’s lemon potatoes recipe the potatoes were a big hit.
Cutting up the potatoes was most of the work. I peeled and cut up 5 lbs of russet potatoes. Then I tossed in oregano, oil, 3 freshly squeezed lemons (1/2 cup), salt and pepper.
I throw in one of the lemons with the potatoes just because I thought it would add to the lemon taste.
The finished product was TELEIOS (Greek for perfect).
YUM! It was a big hit with the family and the souvlaki.
Note: This recipe called for Greek oregano, of which I had none. I used the oregano I had in my pantry. Next time I’ll use Greek oregano which can be purchased at a Greek or Italian market.
Oh, did you know that oregano is Greek for “joy of the mountain.”
