Joe’s Potatoes

Cooking dinner for Mother’s Day has become a no brainer, but what to cook is always a dilemma.

I always want to do something different and end up cooking the same old, same old.  However, this year I made my potatoes slightly different, with the help of my neighbor.   My neighbor gave me an awesome recipe and I went with it…Joe’s Potatoes have now become My Potatoes.

What you need:

Potatoes, preferable Idaho, onions, Chicken Broth, salt, pepper, garlic powder, grated cheese, paprika, butter.

potatoe 6

Peel and slice potatoes.  I used 5 lbs of Idaho potatoes for 18 people.

potatoe 4

Slice each potato, but not all the way through.  Best way to handle this is to place potatoe along side of a wooden spoon, and as you slice  the wooden spoon will keep you from cutting right through the potato.

This was a cool idea that my neighbor gave me.  Otherwise I would not have been able to stop the knife from  slicing right through the potato.

Slice onions, I sliced about 2 large ones, and place them in the bottom of cooking pan.  Then place the barely sliced potatoes on top of the onions.  Pour Chicken broth over potatoes, cover half of potatoes with the chicken broth.  Sprinkle Salt, pepper, garlic powder and grated cheese all over potatoes.  Before putting potatoes in over, place a pat of butter on top of each potato, then sprinkle with paprika.

Bake, uncovered,  in over at 450 degrees, till potatoes are soft,  about 1 1/2 – 2 hours.

potatoe 2

 When done serve!

Mother’s Day  has come and gone, but Joe’s potatoes are here to stay.

Fruit Shoot USA

froot1

Saturday I spent the day with my daughter and her family at the Getting Gorgeous event “Fruit Shoot USA” held at the beautiful Hudson Park Pier 24 at Tribeca.

There was so much to do there. Kids playing and having fun. Rock climbing too.

It turned out to be a beautiful day, I even got some color on my face.  This is a must place to come and bring your kids.

There was a nice guy shaving ice and making snow fun with Fruit Shoot flavors. I tried the strawberry and the kids tried the berry.

So much fun. Natalie and Liam did not want to leave.

Too much fun and sun for the little guy 🙂

Plattdeutsch Beer Garden And Cinco De Mayo

Plattdeutsch Restaurant  is a German restaurant located in Franklin Square who recently opened a beer garden.

Beer Hall at the Plattduetsche BiergartenLove beer gardens they always seem to have a celebratory feeling, not so crazy about beer, but celebrating is something I always like to do. I mean who doesn’t?

It was strange to hear that this German Beer Garden was having Cinco De Mayo celebration.   Then I thought well maybe Cinco De Mayo is becoming like St. Patricks day, you know, it is the day when everyone is Irish.    The next strange thing was my whole family came to celebrate this German, Mexican event.  How funny is that?

photo_5 (11)  My parents and I were the first to arrive and then everyone else followed.  We were suppose to meet my son and sister’ family at 5:30 pm, they arrived at 6 pm.

I tell you I don’t know why my son and my sister’s family always arrive late, no matter where we go.

Good thing  I came at the designated time  or a table we would not have gotten.

Here are the  Mariachi Band.

What’s Cinco De Mayo without a Mariachi Band?

The evening was even more entertaining when my co worker, Karen, and her friend Nadine, joined my family to celebrate Cinco De Mayo.  Laughter was the sound at our table,  along with the clinking of beer glasses.

Oh, not only were we Cinco De Mayo-ing  but we also made sure that we bet on the Kentucky Derby.  Boy, did that beer garden  come to its feet when those horses were let out of the gates.

Yes, I bet on a derby horse and it did not win, lost a big $2.00.

photo_2 (14)You might be wondering about the food.  See Plattdeutsch serves German food but not on Cinco De Mayo.  Our palettes enjoyed Gonzo’s Mexican Grill.  Gonzo’s happens to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in Franklin Square.  Plattdeutsch and Gonzo’s who would have ever thought.

photo_1 (9) As the night progressed the people packed in.  Here I am with my boss Sunny, and Karen.  We are co-workers who enjoy each others company especially at outside events.

Yes, the 5th of May is now a special date, not just for Mexico, but for me,  my family, and friends.
