A Weekend With The Kids – Movies, Playing, Fighting and Goofing Off

I take the kids out for their birthdays.  Natalie had a bowling day in June and Liam wanted a movie day. Since it was Liams’  birthday,  he picked the movie Turbo.  It is an adorable can do movie. ” No dream is too big and no dreamer too small”. Love it!!!   Be sure you take the children in your life to see it this summer.  After the movie, we went to lunch and I made the mistake of sitting in a booth.  They kicked each other under the table, then  took turns crying about it  all through lunch, spelling indigestion for me.

These kids were up bright and early on Saturday and full of pep. Basketball and hopscotch!!  I did my best to keep up with them 🙂 That’s my daughter crossing the street to get the basketball.

No visit would be complete without lunch at the kids favorite place, Benihana Restaurant.  The food is cooked right in front of you and the chef plays with the food and the kids love it.  Believe me this place is always crowded (a very good sign). May I recommend that you  try the Green Tea Ice Cream.    Here we are being silly after the meal.    http://www.benihana.com/

I guess I looked bored or something when we got home my daughter handed me a book  “Social Media Engagement for Dummies” to take home and read. She’s a comic 🙂  I flipped through it while I watched the kids that night while her and my son in law went on a movie/dinner date.  Sunday morning after a quick cup of coffee, I packed up and headed home to rest up !

Pool-Rific

recital 005Groovinmoms  had the pleasure of spending time with  our friend, Lisa.  It had been a very long time since we last spent time with her.  Won’t tell you how long because it was  too long, and it just reminds me of how many years had passed away, just like that,  never to return.  CRAP!

recital 020

Anyway, back to Lisa.  The last time we saw  Lisa, she did not have a pool in her backyard.  Of course, Lisa always said that one day she would have this pool, and knowing Lisa’s personality I knew that one day she would, but when I saw her pool I was so amazed at how beautiful this pool was.

Hey, I never called a pool beautiful. but this pool just impressed me so much that beautiful was the best descriptive word I could use.

recital 017

Here is Liz taking in the sun under  on of Lisa’s  umbrellas.   If you are wondering if Liz went into the water the answer is, Yes.  She did not bring a bathing suit but when she saw the pool she knew that it was too irresistible.  Lucky for her that Lisa had an extra suit that fit.

recital 008

It was a lovely day.  We all enjoyed  drinks and over ate with good food.

recital 011Lisa did not lose her touch, she always knew how to please her guests… Lisa had turned her backyard into a resort and gave us the pleasure to also enjoy, along with her  family.

When evening approached the torches were lite.

We all,” Ooohed and Aaahed”.

What a Roman touch these torches gave.  TOGA anyone?

recital 022

It was very hard to say goodnight to Lisa and her family.  Knowing we were leaving behind a beautiful pool and some beautiful people…So Lisa, let me clearly state that your pool is most certainly  POOL-RIFIC!

A Fig Tree Grows In Queens

fig2

The fig tree was in the back yard when my parents bought this house.  My father was very happy and he took good care of the fig tree.  Pruning and picking and sharing the figs with friends and neighbors. My dad was like that. I remember that  in the winter he would wrap  the trunk in a blanket and covered it with tarp, I never bothered to ask why? Then my dad got real sick and he passed away October 1991.  That winter there was no blanket around the trunk. Never again a blanket or tarp.  We forgot about the fig tree.

To our surprise, the tree produced figs in the summer, there were a few summers when we thought the tree was done for.  But somehow it repaired itself and still  today   keeps on giving us  fruit.  Now my mom shares the figs with friends and family. My mom is like that.

The  good news about figs, they are very high in calcium (may help prevent the bone loss associated with aging) and you can eat the peel, sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t.   They are also high in fiber (may reduce the risk of colon, breast and prostate cancer) . Slice fresh unpeeled ripe figs and serve with cheese. You can cook with them too (try with pork chops) or  do what I do -cut them up and toss  toss in a salad 🙂

Frosty’s Fun

070913 012In my town there is an ice cream shop called, Frosty’s.  My grand kids love this store, not only for it’s ice cream, but also for it’s seasonal decorations.

(You should see their Halloween decorations, scary and so cool).

When ever we tell the grand kids where do you want to go for ice cream they always shout out, FROSTY’S

070913 003

I like to take the grand kids to Frosty’s because they don’t have to just sit down and act like grown ups.  See the owners of Frosty’s let the kids have fun and enjoy.   So that is exactly what they did.  They enjoyed.

Sophie decided that she would do a little dance number for me and my daughter.  Yes, my daughter actually hung out with us and it was great to share the responsibility.

070913 010

As Christian was busy doing his little thing, Ms Sophie took over Frosty’s and gave us a show.  See it was two weeks before her recital and I guess she just wanted to practice.

Then Christian woke up to the entertainment and decided that he would be apart of the dance number.  It was really something to watch as they both acted like they were doing a Broadway show.070913 002

Not sure where Christian ran off too, in this shot, but I could tell my daughter was keeping an eye on him.  As for Ms. Sophie, she completed her Frosty dance and ended with a courtesy and applause.
