Summer is here and it is finally hot! I mean, Hot! Hot! Hot! Now that the hot weather is here, and 4th of July just around the corner, I began to wonder what drink will I drink at the annual BBQ this year?
I always want to try something differently new. I began a mind search, reviewing all the past drinks that I had enjoyed. Then just like that I remembered:
Oh, yes! The drink was cool, refreshing, and different from those regular martini’s.
This year the 4th will be celebrated with watermelon and vodka, in my favorite glass (a martini glass).
If you add some blueberries you can really celebrate July 4th, in a colorful way…
Ingredients 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 5 cups watermelon, seeds removed 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 1/4 cups vodka 2 ounces melon liqueur, optional 8 lemon twists, for garnish ( I like a watermelon slice as a garnish)
Directions Bring the sugar and water to a boil in a small saucepan and cook until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let cool.
In a food processor, puree the watermelon flesh. Add a little of the sugar syrup to sweeten, to taste. Pour the pureed watermelon into 2 empty ice cube trays and freeze for at least 4 hours.
In a blender combine the frozen watermelon cubes, more simple syrup, to taste, lemon juice and vodka, melon liqueur and blend until smooth. Pour into 8 frozen martini glasses and garnish with a lemon twist.
This drink has a little more preparation time but if you make a batch in advance the work will be behind you and your BBQ can Q on.
Do have a safe and enjoyable 4th…God Bless America!
My niece Sandra gets a Birchbox delivery every month. It was a Christmas gift from my daughter Vera, who was on maternity bedrest during the holidays. Sandra knows how much I love to see all the new beauty items she gets and she waits for me to open the box together. She is a doll.
This is what was in this months box:
Davines Love Smoothing Shampoo Davines Love Smoothing Conditioner Oi/Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion Birchbox & Color Club Wanderlust Collection Nailpolish Oscar de la Rente Live In Love Foaming Body Scrub Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Hi Definition Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder Five Tear Away Fun Post Cards
Honestly, Miss Penny was not that interested in the beauty goodies, she just wanted Sandra to keep playing with her 🙂
Hey, did you know that June is Dairy Month? I had no idea that for more than 70 years the month of June helped get the dairy message out. I think we know that milk is a great source of protein and calcium and isn’t that why we encourage our little ones to drink their “MILK”.We also know how hard that is to do, you know, getting them to drink their “MILK”.
But now milk comes in juice like packages. Now you can easily slip one of these milk products into your child’s lunch bag, or box, with no worries about spoilage. These little cartons of milk come in interesting flavors ( wish I had the chocolate milk when I went to school, so love chocolate milk). Remember, no refrigeration required, until opened. Safely packaged, grade A milk and no preservative. Keep them stored in your pantry for up to 6 months without refrigeration. It’s a convenient and healthy way to get the nutrition from milk on car trips, while camping, at the park…even at the beach. Freeze a few cartons the night before and toss into a sports bag, picnic basket or cooler, and it will be the right temperature when you’re ready to drink it.
According to the Journal of Pediatrics, dairy and calcium intakes are inadequate in most four- to 18-year-olds. A carton (8 oz.) of shelf safe milk has eight grams of protein and nine essential nutrients. Now it’s easy to substitute a healthy beverage choice when you’re away from home, anytime, anywhere. Truly anywhere!
Milk that is not refrigerated and safe to drink…see all the types of shelf safe milk available in your local grocery.
It’s still June, and it is never to late to get the message out and to enter the milk unleashed photo contest.
