Green Tea with Mango and Honey Smoothie

Here is a great smoothie that we made with frozen fruit – you can change the fruit to your favorite flavor.   Don’t let a ingredient stop you from making a recipe.  Have fun with it!

Green Tea With Mango and Honey Smoothie

2 cups frozen mango – or what ever frozen fruit you like
2-3 Tbls fresh lime juice
2 cups chilled green tea – more if you like it  loose
2 tsp Honey or Agave Nectar – to taste

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  Serves 2

We both agreed that  a shot of vodka would have been a great idea – but it was still morning 🙂

Flying With Kids

Flying with children is not easy…but not impossible…your travel plans can be easy.

 Here are some  helpful tips…

Get their energy out while you can – Early airport arrival is always necessary, especially in today’s times.  But this does not mean you have to just sit at the gate, with the kids, and wait.  Take a walk with the kids, find an area that they could just run…let them use up all their energy before getting boarded on the plan.

Bring a bag of tricks –  OK, you  really don’t want to carry any extra bags when traveling, but this bag will not carry anything but entertainment for the kids.  Yes, keep a surprise bag of special items…When you get on board magically make them appear when you deem necessary.

Pack some sustenance – Snack, snack, snacks…pack some of their favorite snacks…maybe even something that they normal never get and always want…you know the not so good snack…Treat, treat, treat….

Embrace technology –  Some airplanes have  built in TV screens…I know Jet Blue does…this really helps keep a child entertained…Packing a portable DVD player, iPad, laptop or even a mobile phone preloaded with videos and games can keep kids busy for hours on end.

Fly direct and fly early – Yes, and yes…take an early flight and always direct…getting on and off a plane is tiring for me imagine how tiring and boring it would be for a child…keep the trip simple and distance short…the main objective, with children, is to arrive at destination feeling thrilled that your vacation has begun and not feeling like your vacation is over….:)

Love, Laugh, Cry, Repeat

My pregnant daughter has been on “stay off your feet” orders from her doctor for a couple of weeks.  So, when her husband had to go out of town last week, she asked me if I could stay with her for a few nights and help with the kids and the house.   Laundry, lunch, dinner, dogs  and taking and picking up the kids from school were part of the deal.  P.S. found out that I truly love Barbie bubblegum toothpaste  🙂 Wednesday  was Anti- Bully Awareness Day, so  Natalie and Liam had to wear orange to school.  After  the laundry, Vera said she felt like Benihana (not my favorite) but when a pregnant woman says she wants something – well, you know how that goes.We sat by the bar and it was so dark I could not read the menu,  I  just  put on another  pairs of glasses over the one I had on,  then I hear my daughter laughing and when I looked up, she showed me a photo she shared with the world.  Kids. That night, my sister Marianne and neice Sandra came by and we had dinner,  talked and played  with the kids.  Thursday I went with my daughter to the doctor for her weekly check-up and when she came out of his office I knew he had put her on total bed rest (she is due in February).  Vera cried all the way home.  This is her third baby , third bed rest order.   After a while, she was quite and we watched some spooky paranormal show she likes, ,  I was glued. The doorbell rang , my son in law Bill sent Vera these beautiful flowers that started her crying again.

Thank God she understands and  feels better and has a positive attitude   to staying in bed. They have another doctor appointment today, hoping the doctor will let her stay at home and not put her in the hospital – which happened with Liam. Believing the best and leaving the rest to Him.

Broccoli And Blue Cheese Dressing

I would have never put broccoli and blue cheese dressing together… until one day we accidentally combined blue cheese dressing with broccoli. 🙂

The recipe is simple.

We just steamed some broccoli and cut them up into small bite size pieces.

Chopping onions and garlic was probably the most tedious part of this recipe

The final step is to just mix the remaining ingredients together…EASY!

When the blue cheese dressing is all mixed, we threw in the broccoli…

And we enjoyed!!!

Here is the recipe for the Blue Cheese Dressing .

2 cloves garlic, minced very finely
2 Tablespoons of minced red onion (very finely)
1/3 cup chopped parsley
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 Tablespoon red wine vinegar
3/4 cup to 1 cup of blue cheese

PS – the blue cheese dressing was suppose to be a dressing for salad and chicken wings but like I said mixing blue cheese dressing with broccoli was purely accidental, well accidentally on purpose…

Mix all together and refrigerate for a few hours.
Enjoy!!!

We did.

Broccoli, rich in vitamin K, is known to encourage healthy brain function!
