Citifield

Saturday I went to see a Mets-Philly game at Citifield with Veronica.  We took the 7 train to Mets Willets Point and we followed the crowd.  I have to tell you the new ball park is really beautiful and so people friendly…..a large welcoming promenade …..picnic tables and free standing lounge tables.  Did I mention the food……that was the hard part….what to eat?  We ended up at the Shake Shack for a burger and fries ….yes there was a line, but it moved very fast and it was delicious.

The game started slow, 0-0 for the first 6 innings, then it went really fast and the Mets won 2-1.  Wow!!!  What a great afternoon.

During the game, Dakota Meyer, the first living Marine to receive the Medal Of Honor since 1973, was honored for his bravery.  The Mets are part of the Welcome Back Veterans Program. He received a well deserved standing ovation.  I am very proud I was at that game..

If you haven’t gone to the new Citifield Stadium yet – make plans to get there.  You and your family will love it.

Buy Buy BABY Outing

I recently had to go buy a baby shower gift and decided to bring Christian with me.   Me and Christian, or Christian and I. Whatever the proper English we both ventured out.  I thought this would be an easy outing.  So off I went to Buy Buy Baby… with Mr. Christian.

Here he is in the wagon of choice.  I don’t know why he just would not look at me.  Was he mad at me?  What did I do to upset him?  Christian, hello!

No response.  I did not let his, ‘ I don’t want to know you’  look stop me.  I pushed  Mr. Chrisitian in the wagon and he was pretty quiet…UNTIL!

Until, he started to want all the toys he saw in the store.  I kept telling him, “No, Christian, you cannot have it,” or “No, Christian, that is not your ball.”

In the end he won.  I relented and just gave him the  plastic duck that he cried for.

This duck satisfied him for awhile… a short while.

Once he realized that he could not eat this plastic duck,  he began to get upset again.  ” OK, OK,” I said, now what else could I give him to keep him quiet.

Then he said, “ball” and pointed to a Jack O’ Lantern.  Oh, is this what you want.  Correcting him was not important, I just wanted him to stop crying.  So the Jack  O’ Lantern was now his.

Off we went with Jack O in hand or should I say on head.

Did You Know

13 Things Your Jeweler Won’t Tell You

According to Michelle Crouch from Money Digest :

Think you got a great deal on that beautiful ruby? It may not be real.  A number of jewelers nationwide have been caught selling “composite rubies”, which are as much as 40 to 50 percent glass, for the price of the real thing.

A sure sign of poor craftsmanship: rough edges on the back of the piece.  If it’s not finished underneath, they’ve probably cut corners somewhere else.

If your favorite color is blue, I’m going to try to sell you the most expensive stone in that color, probably a sapphire.  But many other stones – including spinel, tanzanite, and tourmaline (I know these stones from shopping at home) – also come in blue.  You just have to know to ask.

Seek out jewelers who are credentialed by the American Gem Society, which holds them to a high standard of knowledge and a code of ethics.

When you tell me “I never take it off”, I can’t help but think, That’s disgusting.  To leave it on when you clean the house, lotion up your hands …..yuck.  (You know I never really thought about it, I was always afraid I would lose it).  Seems, you should take it off.

If you are buying a diamond on a budget, don’t get stuck on the clarity grade.  You can come down several clarity grades and in most cases will see absolutely no difference with the naked eye – that’s the eye I use alot – especially once it’s set in a piece of jewelry.

If your jeweler tells you that none of his emeralds are treated in any way, he’s probably either ill informed or dishonest.  Almost all emeralds today are treated.

Please don’t lick or spit on your finger to get your ring off, and then hand it to me – sorry.

Clean your gems in warm water with a mild liquid detergent and a toothbrush.  For some extra shine on your diamonds (as long as they’re not fracture filled), spray  a little Windex (I love that stuff) on them, then wipe it off.  That’s actually what a lot of jewelers use, even the ones who sell expensive cleaner.

Extended warranties from jewelry stores typically aren’t worth the money.  If you have a rider on your homeowners insurance for your ring, and it’s lost, damaged, stolen, or if the stone falls out, your policy will usually cover it.

The “60 to 70 percent off” sales you sometimes see?  Not possible.  What???  There just isn’t enough margin in what we sell today that you can discount like that and run a business and pay your bills.

Here’s a word to watch for on that diamonds’ certification report: laser.  If your diamond has a high clarity grade, but under Comments it says laser path or laser, that means a laser beam was used to get rid of a flaw, and it should cost 15 to 40 percent less than an untreated diamond of the same grade.

We like to say, “If you don’t know your jewels, know your jeweler”.  It really does come down to trust.
