Barosa And A Birthday

Celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday was a celebration indeed.
She closed a decade and is now beginning a new one.
Her sister suggested that we all meet at Barosa’s for drinks, dinner and talk.
Believe me we can talk.
Seven of us made it a point to be there to wish her a Happy Birthday.
See this birthday was not just any birthday, this birthday was a big one…
THE BIG 60.
Here is the birthday girl, Pattie, along with her sister and sister-in-law.
Pattie and I grew up together, when I say grew up I mean we’ve known each other since we were tiny tots.
Pattie’s birthday is quite a wake up call – see this means I am not to far from being 60 myself …like 6 months away.
Pattie, we went from the rocking 60’s to actually being 60.
HOW DID THAT HAPPEN????
Hail, hail, the gangs all here…here to celebrate a birthday at Barosa’s.
I ordered a pork chop.
This breaded pork chop was flattened and covered with tomato and mozzarella. I wondered how many hits, with a pallet, it took to get this pork chop this flat…I usually like my pork chops nice and thick, but a flat PC was tenderly good.
Liz ordered the Fra Diablo …she was shocked when she saw the lobster tail hanging out on top of the spaghetti, and circling the tail… mussels, calamari and clams.
Barosa‘ Fia Diablo was no shrimp of a dish.
We all ordered dessert.
The best dessert came in this martini glass, and of course the Cannoli was to die for.
No dieters at this birthday party table.
The dinner went on for 5 hours.
To our delight Barosa’s went from a dining pleasure to a disco delight…so if you are ever in Middle Village, Queens and want to dine and maybe do some dancing, head on over to Barosa’s.

Chinese New Year & Egg Drop Soup
Meatless Meatballs
1 cup bread crumbs
5 beaten eggs
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup grated romano cheese
1 clove galric-minced
1/2 cup chopped flat leaf parsley
salt/pepper to taste
Combine all in a large bowl, mix well and let rest 5 minutes. Put enough oil in large frying pan to come up 1/2 inch on the side – heat over medium heat. Using a tablespoon, drop the bread crumb mixture into the oil carefully and gently fry balls until golden brown – 3 to 4 minutes per side. Drain balls on paper towel lined plate. Discard all but 2 Tbsp of the oil from the pan.
Add 1 small diced onion and saute until soft, not browned, about 5 minutes. Add one 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes, 1 tsp sugar and salt/pepper to taste. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add the balls and 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil. Add 1/2 cup water. Cook another 5 minutes and serve over your favorite whole wheat pasta or rolls. Mixed salad will complete the meal.
