Cooking With Kids – 10 Secrets

Besides the wonderful memories and delicious foods you will be sharing……just think of the laughter and fun you will have cooking with your children or grandchildren.  Parenting.com shares how to train your top chef.

Designate their workspace with a baking sheet. Helps with the spills and contains the mess.
Prepare for five minutes alone. Read the recipe right before you start and decide which job you will let the chef in training do.
Pint-size the project. My mom would let me and my sister shell the peas – mmmm, they were so good.
Fill up the sink.  I don’t know any kid who doesn’t like to play with sudsy water.
Spin, Spin, Spin that lettuce dry.
Have a routine – wash your hands first and bring a chair to the counter.
Go slowish and give them one instruction at a time.
Use smart tools – wooden spoons have smooth, round handles suited to a childs’ grip.
Let them cut – plastic utensils take much of the danger but still, supervision is always required.
Keep it steady and stable – anchor bowls, cutting boards on your baking sheet with a damp paper towel.

Have Fun!!!!

Sunless Tanning

Summer time and the living is easy.  It’s a time of looking healthy, and for some reason getting a tan falls into that category.

Here comes the sun.  But we do need to be careful as to how much sun we take in.

Yes, the sun is good for you, vitmanin D and all, but all you really need is fifteen minutes of full sun every day.  Anything more will certainly leave it’s mark in ways we really don’t want.

Everyone knows by now, unless you live on the moon and reside on the darkside of town, that over exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer and is the number one ageing factor. Yet, just go to the beaches  you will see people just lapping up the sun.

What to do? What to do?  Well, you can get that sun kissed look without the harmful rays of the sun.  Here are a few products that can do just that.

Origins Faux Glow, $19.50

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer, $8.99  – Liz prefers this  brand and it really works.

Coppertone Endless Summer, $7.99

LORAC TANtalizer selfTANtalizer, $34

L’Oreal Sublime One Day, $10.49 –  I use this one .

Sunless tanning products are also a time saver.

Did You Know

Death by Laughter

“It was so funny I thought I was going to die laughing”, ”  I almost died from laughing so hard.” Did you ever say these words.  I have.  But, can you really die?  Just from laughing.  Well it seems the likely hood of this occuring is rare but not impossible.

According to Dr. Martin Samuels, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, blacking out while laughing may be related to over-breathing, and is probably not too dangerous.

“This is most likely benign and unlikely that it would lead to death,” he says.

But that doesn’t mean death doesn’t sometimes wear a smile. In the third century B.C., the Greek philosopher Chrysippus was said to have died laughing after getting his donkey drunk on wine. More recently, a Danish audiologist died laughing in 1989 while watching “A Fish Called Wanda.” (It’s also the subject of an old Monty Python sketch, in which a writer pens the “funniest joke in the world” — and immediately dies.)

“Happy news is just as dangerous as sad news with regard to the risk of sudden death,” he says. “I have cases of people who died after hitting holes in one, after bowling perfect 300 games and upon hearing the words ‘Not Guilty.’ Death during sexual activity is also well known. Ecstasy, happiness and good news are definitely risky.”

So this tells me that sadness and happiness can be life threatening…OK, I will take ‘Death by Laughter’.

Curls – Propel Media Event

A couple of weeks ago Merci and I attended a Propel Media Event and were introduced to Curls. We learned how to get effortless, frizz free curls in a snap!

Got to take home the Cleansing Cream – work into your scalp and rinse. Apply the Coconut Sublime Conditioner, detangle and allow to sit on hair for recommended time.  Towel dry your hair – use Quenched Curls Moisturizer.  Apply your styling product of choice – my choice is Curl Gel-les’c.  Gently blot away excess and allow hair to dry on its own or air dry or diffuse if you’re in a hurry.

Curls is perfect for any type of curl to help eliminate frizz and make curls perfectly coiled.

So now you know the secret to create Sexy Curls, like the stars.

Ice Cream, You Scream

I love ice cream. My favorite flavor is strawberry…….. and chocolate… and vanilla. I also love rocky road and cherry vanilla. I really love ice cream sodas and I’m crazy for a milk shake – strawberry, please.  Did I mention,  I love ice cream?  My favorite ice cream on a stick is white coconut vanilla! Love a hot fudge sundae with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream , nuts and the cherry.  Banana splits are made to be shared with someone you love – learned that from Olive Oyl and Popeye.

A fun treat is putting a scoop of ice cream on a chocolate cookie and topping it with another chocolate cookie – ice cream sandwich!

The U.S. enjoys an average of 48 pints of ice cream per person, per year, more than any other country.   Did you know that it takes 12 lbs of milk to make just one gallon of ice cream – wow!
