The Mint Julep – A Derby Classic

Here is a recipe for a Mint Julep:

2Cups Water…….2 Cups sugar……1/2 cup roughly chopped fresh mint leaves…..32 fluid oz Kentucky bourbon…8 sprigs mint leaves for garnish….crushed ice….. straws

Combine water, sugar and chopped mint leaves in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat until sugar is dissolved.  Allow syrup to cool for about 1 hour.  Pour syrup through a strainer to remove mint leaves…….Fill a large pitcher  with crushed ice and pour  bourbon and  syrup. Stir well….. Pour into 8 chilled glasses, top with sprigs of mint.and a straw…..  Sip and enjoy the races………then make some popcorn and enjoy the movie!
