Apple Pie #Tasteofhome #Homemade #Applepicking

I love pies.  Apple, pumpkin, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry….place a slice of pie in front of me and I am in dessert heaven.  Just one slice all it takes.   Out of all the pies apple pie  is my favorite.

I never considered baking a pie because buying a pie was easier than making one. Until my daughter dropped off  a bag of apples (the apples were handed picked), and said, “Here mom, make an apple pie.”   At first I shook my head and said, “NO!”  However, after looking at the apples just sitting inside my refrigerator, I thought, what a waste of apples, I should try to bake an apple pie with them. And so I did!

I searched the web for an easy recipe and found one – Apple Pie Recipe from Taste Of Home.

At first I couldn’t help but feel that I was taking on a big baking responsibility.  I quickly shook that feeling off and began gathering the necessary ingredients.   The most tedious task of making this pie was peeling the apple skins and cutting them up into bite size pieces.   I only had to buy the  ready made pie crust ( package of two crusts).   You didn’t think I would attempt to make a pie crust?  No way.   🙂  The second pie crust was placed over the filled bottom crust.  Preparation done, now the baking.

I could not believe my eyes as I removed the pie from the oven.  There it was my very own home baked apple pie.1286470098_500mae-evening-2010  19-362471-1WOW!  I did it.  I made an apple pie.

Thanks Taste Of Home.  1233847846lifebest

Note:  I omitted  some of the suggested ingredients.  I added more cinnamon in place of the ginger (didn’t have ginger in the house) and omitted adding the egg white and sugar on top of crust (did not want a sugary crust).

Now if you will excuse me,  I need to pour a glass of milk and enjoy my homemade apple pie.

Good Enough To Eat #scratchkitchen #ComfortFood

image

Good Enough To Eat is comfort food at its best. This is the place to bring your family and your appetite. We stopped by for some lunch on one of the most beautiful days of Autumn.

image

The place is inviting, friendly and so charming. The staff are Number 1 in our book. We like to ask questions and our waitress was a living doll.

image

First things first, we ordered a cold beer from the fully stocked bar. Something about a cold one on a hot day.

We started out with a cup of Bean and Ham soup.  Creamy white beans with vegetables and ham. YUM

image

We decided to split a salad and sandwich. Yes we went for the full size. Avocado and Cheddar Sandwich and the Honey Walnut Chicken Salad. There are so many options from the lunch menu. Salad, Appetizers, Burgers, Sandwiches and a Chili of the Day. The menu is perfect and so is the food.

We thought we would not be able to finish it all. We were wrong. Then we played with the idea of sharing a piece of pie.  With all the home baked goodies,  we went for the Pumpkin Pie and Carrot Cake. Yes, we shared.  Oh so good you better save room for dessert.

Good Enough To Eat also cater, they make all their own breads, desserts, sausages and everything else, with only the freshest ingredients. They can do any kind of party from full service to just providing the food.

Head on over for a wonderful meal and warm atmosphere and bring the family. This is how you do happy.

One World Observatory Center #OWOC #OWTC @TributeWTC

15 years have passed since the WTC (9/11) attack occurred.   Now  One World Trade Center has been erected in it’s place.     167977_498900227163_719607163_5929059_3751503_n  An awesome building standing proud and tall.  Saying nothing, yet, saying it all.     1391861_10202335986271460_1041844512_n

My visit to OWTC was a memory rewind as we approached OWTC to visit One World Observatory.

One World Observatory has an elevator ride that is indescribable.   When entering the elevator you don’t face the door you are asked to face the elevator wall.  Now as the elevator climbs to the top the walls light up with a time flash of NYC.2013-03-15-11-24-55The elevator slinks up, up, up!  Straight to the top (1,254 feet) in a elevator minute.    As I stepped out of the elevator and entered the Observatory deck, my eyes   scanned the full Manhattan sky trying to absorb all of the skyline marvel.  0308Unfortunately, the day I  went to OWO the weather was poor.    Clouds hovered and rain drizzled down my favorite city, but 142224__nightmare_lit did not dampen the experience.

1025141155a-1However, the best part of being downtown NYC was the Memorial Pool.  The first thing I heared,  as I approached the Memorial Pool, was the sound of rushing water.  The closer I got to the pool the sound of water gave me a sense of calm.   Along the edges of the pool are the names of those who were lost on that horrific day.  So many names.

The next thing you realize is how quiet it is around the pool.  A holy silence. img_6155 Then a feeling of peace, joy, and hope engulfed me.

The 9/11 Memorial visit is a humbling experience.  It’s a reminder of how vulnerable we can be.  Yet, in the end, it reminds us how we as a people can  pull together to recreate.  Not to replace what was once there but to honor the memory of all those who perished on 9/11.

 I LIVE NEW YORK!!
