I love it when my daughter-in-law invites me and my husband over for dinner . I get to eat a meal that I don’t have to cook and I get to spend time with the grand children in their home.
Now as for Grandpa he usually just eats his meal and watches the grand kids entertain us with their antics, but on this particular evening it was Grandpa who did the entertaining and it all started with a simple balloon.
A balloon!
Grandpa turned a deflated balloon into fun and games. I was so happy to see him make the children laugh and even more happy to see him laugh.
Last week was my moms’ 83rd birthday. We usually go out to eat, but as my daughter just had a new baby, I thought it would be easier to cook and invited everyone to my house. My daughter called and told me that Liam was just getting over the flu, so I told her not to worry, we’ll bring the party to her. So, I packed up the food, cake and the appetizers and filled the trunk. I could not wait to see Caleb and Liam and Natalie, my grandkids and I know my mom wanted to see them too. My cousin Veronica came with us and Sandra and my sister were there too. A full house of family fun. Thank God.
While everyone was nibbling on fruit, cheese and the chip and dip I was busy getting lunch ready. I made chicken cutlet parm and broiled shrimp, linguine with broccoli and garlic and oil and a salad. Everyone was hungry!
I bet you think I thought the cake was the best part, well, not this time. The best part was holding my new grandson. I love to be around my daughter and her family, nothing fancy, just comfortable and feeling good, like being home.
My mom thought that Caleb looked like my dad, and my sister and I agreed right away. But as the afternoon passed and I was holding and looking at him, I realized, boy he really looks like Caleb 🙂
It is not so difficult to gather everyone and go out to dinner. Well, not so difficult as long it is in your own neighborhood. But when you are going to to a play in NYC, on meatless Friday, well that makes it more than difficult.
Instead of blindly looking for a place to eat in Manhattan, Erin asked her sister-in-law, who happens to be a frequent visitor of the Broadway area, to recommend a good place to eat fast and eat good, and also eat meatless. Her sister-in-law recommended John’s Pizza. So off we went, before the play, to John’ s Pizza.
A simple pizza dinner did become the choice of the evening , in spite of my husband’s, I don’t want to eat pizza routine. He was soooo out voted.
As my parent’s review the menu, they take in the surroundings. See ,John’s Pizza was a church and it still had a church feel and look.
It is always a good thing when Christian keeps himself entertained. The i-phone always manages to keep him busy, he plays the games and slides through all the pictures and videos on the phone…keeping Christian quiet, and busy, I think there is an app for that.
John’s brick oven pizza was delicious. We order three large pies, plain, peppers and onions, and meatballs. Yes, I did say no meat Fridays didn’t I. The meat pie was for my husband. He just cannot give anything up…
We also had to have a salad..
But the best part of the meal was the dessert.
Christian loved his bear ice cream and I enjoyed the rice pudding.
I was suppose to share the pudding with Erin, but she only took a few spoonfuls, then I had eating the whole thing. Which I did with no problem. 🙂
When we all finished eating we quickly packed the kids up and headed down the block…our next stop was a Broadway show… The Lion King…
