Three Kiwis A Day = Lower Blood Pressure

Have high blood pressure?   KIWI TO THE RESCUE!

No, not the Kiwi bird…thank goodness…

Kiwi the fruit.

They say that three Kiwis a day will make the high blood pressure go away.  Who are they?  The American Heart Association.

“Research presented at the scientific meeting of the American Heart Association shows that eating three kiwis a day is linked with decreased blood pressure.”

Kiwi Blood Pressure

                                                     I do love a Kiwi.

This little fruit can appear not so tempting to the eye.  I don’t like the feel of the outer shell. The outside shell feels like my legs when I have not shaven for some time and just like my legs rough and winter dry.

I do have to start moisturizing more often.

I have an idea

maybe I should use the moisturizer that sits on my night table just for that purpose.  Am I that lazy? YES.

Back to the Kiwi – When you slice off that ugly skin the surprise is this beautiful color inside.  Good thing I don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

Of course, we all know that there is no one single food, just like there is no one magic pill, that is the key to heart health, but the kiwi has joined the ranks of one of the heart healthy fruits.

I know the recommended amount of kiwis,  three a day, can be a little much,

So just start with one and mix in other heart healthy fruits.

I have been eating Kiwi’s for many years so I guess that is way my blood pressure is low.  Well, I cannot give the kiwi all the credit…but I cannot not  give it some 🙂

Stop Smoking Today – Please

Me and Merci started smoking when we were 14 years old – summer of ’66.  A couple of nights a week we would walk as fast as we could to The Village.  On the way we would chip in .25 cents each and by a pack of Taryton – that’s right,  the I’d rather fight than switch smokes.  When we got to the Village we would go into the Cafe Wha? or The Cock n’ Bull, order a cherry coke and have a smoke or two.  I don’t remember if we inhaled at that time or not, probably not.  But oh did we feel cool…..so very cool……bell-bottoms, beads and everything.  Then like Cinderella we would run back home to make our 9 pm curfew.  Merci had a baby boy in February 1977 and in November 1977,  I had a baby girl  – a very good year in deed.  During our pregnancy we both stopped smoking and using extra sugar and salt.  I thought I would go back to all three after my daughter was born – I only went back to one – smoking.  Bad idea.  During those years we both would quit and then start up again for one reason or another.  But we never gave up and always encouraged each other.  Thank God it has been 20 years plus since we had a last cigarette – it was not easy – as you know – but it has to be one of the best decisions we ever made. Please stop smoking – November 17, today,  is The Great American Smokeout – plan to be a part of it – know that you are not alone and that you can  beat smoking.  Alot of people  love you and need you to stick around for all the times ahead.  Do it for them – do it for yourself.

Puss in Boots

Tuesday  night, movie night with Sophie.

This was  not exactly my idea, see going out  during a work week is not  my cup of tea, but this Tuesday my mom thought it would be a good idea to take Sophie to see Puss in Boots.  So off we went on our  little outing, just  the three of us…

Sophie was all smiles and just could not wait to see Puss.  I explained to her that this Puss was the same Puss that was in Shrek. This little pussy cat now had his own story.Thank goodness there was no line to get into this theater…I guess the word is not out that Puss in Boots is in town.  I inhaled my dinner to beat no crowd.

My mother got these tickets for us FREE…See  we have Optimum iO TV

No line to get soda or popcorn.  Sophie got her soda…Wow, have you seen the prices lately, $4.50 for a small coke, good thing I bring my own microwaved popcorn.

Oh, did I forget to mention that my mother brought her friend Angie.

And  I thought it was going to be just the mama, daughter, and granddaughter outing…I should have known.

3D movies are  much more interesting to watch.  Love the I can reach out and touch it effect.  3D certainly has improved, even the glasses are like real glasses.

Gee, I remember the glasses that were made like  paper thin.

Sophie kept these glasses on..looking cool. I wore mine on top of my glasses…not looking cool..

Angie and my mother  having their own conversation.  I was just the babysitter.

Did we enjoy watching the Puss in Boots character?

Yes, we did.

Puss was entertaining and some old story characters were included in the story line,  Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Jack and the Beanstalk, Mother Hubbard, of course with a little twist.

As for Sophie… yes, she also enjoyed the movie, even though we had to make a bathroom run towards the end, but Sophie did not miss the closing song.

Lady Gaga, she said…Puss in Boots was now a very cool cat.

Did You Know

Hangover Cure

Coffee and aspirin may be the most reliable hangover cure, according to a rat study done at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.  The caffeine and aspirin, taken four to six hours after drinking, blocked the effects of the ethanol. (The usual caveats about aspirin, alcohol, and stomach bleeding still apply).  To tell you the truth, I always take 2 aspirins before I go to a party and 2 more, with a big glass of water,  before I go to bed and it helps me –  I also try to stand by a 2 drink limit.  I hate hangovers.  Wayne Curtis of the Atlantic has a less rigorous approach: a Bloody Mary.  “It contains vodka for the hair of the dog, salt and frutose to aid rehydration and potassium and vitamin C to offset depletions”, he explains.  “The high-density ballast of the juice itself settles the stomach.  I don’t know about you, but I’m liking this guy.
