Dad, Grand Dad and Great-Grand Dad’s Birthday

My dad turned 79 this past Friday.  We celebrated his birthday on Sunday, I made baked macaroni, Maltese style, at least I tried to make it that way, and a  roast beef for dinner. We had planned to celebrate my dad’s birthday at a restaurant, but with the grandchildren we thought it best to  just make a little something at home.

It was certainly the best thing we all did.

Where can you go and be able to scream, bang on the table, laugh so loud that your ears hurt, talk till your blue in the face, and not feel like you are bothering other’s…certainly no place but home. Our gatherings always start out quiet then escalate into a shouting match, especially when there is a football game to watch.  My dad loves being with all of us, most of all his great-grandchildren, Sophia and Christian.

Christian and Sophie don’t really understand how blessed they are to have Great-Grandparents.  I wish I had my grandparent living close to me, but my grandparent  lived thousands of miles away in Malta.  Christian just could not wait for my dad’s coconut custard birthday pie to be cut…sticking his fingers into the pie was the way he could get a piece, while we took pictures of them.Funny thing is the great-grandkids get away with alot more then we ever did…sticking a finger in my father’s pie would have gotten me a smack on the hand real quick…not Christian.

So Dad, Happy Birthday from all your children and we look forward to celebrating your 80th next year.

Did You Know

Let There Be Light!

Why do we have day light saving time?

Well, we can thank Benjamin Franklin for this wonderful idea.  Yep, it was Benny himself who conceived of the extra hour of light, you know spring ahead.  Love it!  Love that extra hour of light.  But what is given is quickly taken away.  I hate to give up the light during the fall back season…NO MORE EXTRA LIGHT!

Except, I love the extra hour of sleep that I lost when we had to spring ahead.  Hmmmm, extra light, less sleep, no more light, more sleep…can we really make up the lost sleep, they say yes we can.  So I guess if I have to lose the  extra light at least in return I can get more sleep.

Is that an even trade?  I don’t think so.

For in my book I can always make up lost sleep, but lost light, now that is not something we can get back.

Family, Time of the Season

Halloween with the Grandkids

I look forward to Halloween more so now then when my kids were little.   When Sophie was born Halloween had a different meaning for me.  Yes, I took my kids trick or treating, but as a young mother I never appreciated the whole idea.  Now with the wisdom that comes with age, I see Halloween in a different light.

I loved going door to door and watching Sophie get her treats and smile with excitement.  This year we had an added treat with the presence of Christian, his first real trick or treat adventure.   It was amazing how quickly he caught on to what he was getting and where he had to put the candy he got.  Even at 16 months they know that this is truly a treat.

Watch out Batman and Pippi Long Stocking, Michael Meyers is right behind you!  RUN!

Oh, I forgot that they are use to seeing Michael in front of their yard. See their daddy loves to watch the movie ” Halloween”  I remember when I first saw Halloween it scared me for days…I would wake up and imagine Michael peeking around the bedroom door…

Batman is off to save the day I think he could care less that Robin is missing.

Sophie you look good in red hair…well the freckles do have to go.

This car seat is not the bat mobile, but is sure is the only way to get around.

After trick or treating we always go out and have dinner.  This is something we never did with our kids, I always went home to cook dinner.  This Halloween we had a special treat, the other Grandma came with us…How wonderful that Sophie and Christian have two Grandma’s to share their precious moments.  Damian, my son, always makes sure he shares in this special day and of course Grandpa who joined us after his long day at work.  I can assure you that he makes a special exception to be apart of this…he really loves going home to the couch…

Holding Batman down was not easy.

Our Halloween was coming to an end.  But if Christian is anything like his father…his adventure as Batman has only just begun.
