Artist and creative director Todd Sturgell was watching a nature documentary one day and suddenly imagined the most ridiculous scenario – what if the animals on the screen decided that the narrator wasn’t right at all, and that they could write their own story? Thus, the idea for his debut children’s book was born. Except Antarctica hits the sweet spot of silliness and high-brow humor that you can’t help but tell your friends about. Yes, it is a picture book for kids, but adults will appreciate the humor and hilarity of characters breaking the fourth wall, as well as the subtle lesson that maybe cheeky animals (…and children!) should listen to adults.
