“A Night At The Opera” no not the movie with the Marx Brothers, but the night I went to see my very first Opera, La Traviata. La Traviata means “fallen woman” or “The one who goes astray“, an opera by Guiseppi Verdi. A story of love, sacrifice and a selfish parent…

My night at the opera was a first but not for our friends. They have experienced a night at the opera more than once. It was my husband, and I, that were newbies to this exquisite performance of talent.

When we arrived I wanted to inhale all The Metropolitan Opera had to offer. Of course, we toasted the evening. The drinks were pricey but we were at the METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE.

The stage was beautifully decorated. A flower! Was this flower a foreshadowing of what La Traviatta’s story will hold. La Traviatta is an opera that tells the true meaning of love. Every opera has an unhappy ending, as I was told, and La Traviatta was no different. However, as sad as it was, don’t want to give it away, it was also uplifting. La Traviatta sang to the heart of real love. To me the opera’s story of love and loss is an experience like no other.

“The Night of The Opera” meant more to me than I would have thought. A fulfilling experience, so different than a Broadway play. The stage was filled with customes of vibrant color. As the actors sing in nightingale harmony.

My Night At The Opera was not just a night but a lasting memory of something that will extend beyond my dreams.
