Like this chicken, shrimp, steak, ribs, scallop, and chorizo sausage dish.  A dish for two that fed three.  Including a doggie, bag that is.

Then the octopus dish of the night. This octopus dish was in question.  To eat or not to eat?    Ha!  We ate!  Grilled octopus has now become a dish of order.

As long as it’s lite up. With flame clicker in hand, octopus up in flames!  Flaming octopus!

Fire up the pan, cause flaming octopus is Cuban cool.

La Pulperia #LatinCuisine #TastyTuesday #GroovinEats

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure to enjoy a most delicious Latin  lunch at La Pulperia in Midtown Manhattan. As we were not very familiar with Latin food, we asked our waiter to tell us what he thought we would like. After asking us a few questions, he returned with two amazing and very different Margaritias. One minty, one smokey and both spicy. Delicious.

Enjoyed our cocktails with two perfect starters. El Salmon Brulee a unique Salmon Tartar with strawberry and ginger brulee.

Then we were surprised with the Lobster Taquitos cold lobster salad with pineapple served in crispy wonton shells. We were so happy that we let the expert make the choices!

Just when we thought it could not get better out came a Signature Dish,  The Moqueca Mixta  which we shared filled with shrimps, squid, mussels, white fish, scallops and chorizo and bacalao served with coconut green rice. We are not kidding, you must enjoy this one for yourself.

The last margarita is not on the menu, it is the House Special Jalapeno  Margarita and all you have to do is ask for it. S.P.I.C.Y. Safe to say we were pretty full at this point and so we decided to share a dessert and just like the rest of the meal the choice that was made for us was perfect. Crepas,  coconut cream, banana brulee with dulce de leche lucuma ice cream. Did we finish it? Yes, we did.

If you find yourself in New York City you must come to La Pulperia for an unequaled dining experience. Mothers’ Day is just around the corner, Mom will be thrilled. Fabulous for all Holidays and special occasions like Lunch and Dinner. 🙂  Worth the trip.

SPIT #CardGame #MindGame #Fun #Grandchildren

SPIT – a card game – a game that is fast and a lot of fun.  All you need is a deck of cards and go SPIT.  So simple.

I hadn’t played SPIT since I was a kid.  So when my granddaughter asked me to play ,SPIT, I was at a loss.  Loss of memory.  I had forgotten how the game was played.

But just like riding a bike, which I don’t know how to ride, she quickly refreshed my memory.  The game rules came flooding back.  Except, some rules had changed.  I think they were her rules.   Then the SPIT game began, we played for hours.   I also forgot  how long the game can go on, and on, and on.  Of course I beat her like 3 times.  Sorry, no mercy from Mercy.  All’s fair in card games.

We did have one problem.  The SPIT game  only allows two people to play at one time.  Which meant my  grandson could not play.  However, the truth is my granddaughter didn’t want  him to play.  Why?  She didn’t want to teach him the card game.  Little stinker.

He was a good sport.  He found other things to keep him occupied.  He had lost his i-pad privilege due to being naughty.

What a nice afternoon we had together.  No i-phones, no i-pads, no outside distractions.  Our attention was on the game and each other.

We just had good old fashion fun with a deck of cards.  Can’t wait till she learns how to play GO FISH.
